After an Executive tells Mexican-American writer DJ Banks his writing isn’t authentic, and with the help of his comedic cousins, DJ sets his day on rediscovering his cultural authenticity by re-connecting with an old Mexican-American lady friend that ends up in disaster.
About the Director(s)
David Tripler is a Mexican-American Writer, Director and Actor from Los Angeles, CA. He attended Loyola Marymount University majoring in Film and TV Production with a minor in Business Administration. He produced an award winning short film for LMU’s Film Outside the Frame, interned at Davis Entertainment and served an apprenticeship under Writer/Director Youssef Delara (Filly Brown, Sundance). In 2014, David was chosen as a member of NALIP’s We Move You Forward campaign and made it into the second round of the Sundance Screenwriting Lab and is currently enrolled in the Feature Film Writing Certificate at UCLA Extension. South of Sunset is making its Los Angeles debut during the LA Shorts festival, followed by LALIFF and has been accepted into the Oaxaca International Film Festival. South of Sunset Fake Mexicans also finished as the most reviewed short film in the Amazon Prime Video ALL VOICES contest. David recently was accepted into Lena Waithe’s HILLMAN GRAD Mentorship group and is currently developing South of Sunset as a TV show along with his first feature film HYPEBEAST.
