Latino Film Institute (LFI) today announced the fifth cohort of the LFI Spark Animation Fellowship, one of the organization’s signature programs designed to support emerging animation filmmakers. Supported by Netflix, the fellowship provides financial support, mentorship and industry guidance to help filmmakers develop and complete original animated short films.

The Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival will open with the timely dramedy “Valentina,” from emerging filmmaker Tatti Ribeiro, starring Keyla Monterroso Mejia and executive produced by Jessica Alba and Tracey Nyberg.

The festival will open with ASCO: Without Permission, written and directed by Travis Gutiérrez Senger, executive produced by Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, and featuring special appearances by Zoe Saldaña and Michael Peña. LALIFF will close with Serious People, co-written and co-directed by Pasqual Gutierrez and Ben Mullinkosson, which is being shown for the first time on the West Coast.
